Mrs. Marian E. "Bette" (Boughton) Sporman passed away peacefully, with family at her side, early Tuesday morning May 4th, 2010. Daughter of the late John and Margaret (Molyneaux) Boughton, she was born in Bay City on May 19th, 1921. Marian worked for the Army Ordinance as an inspector during World War II. She was curator of the Bay County Historical Museum and a member of the Bay County Historical Society. Being an avid reader, her interests included geneology, history and philosophy. She was an artist, both private and commercial, who also volunteered her talent at her church and local schools. She spent many hours painting murals of St. Alban, the Good Shepard and Noahs' Ark, which are in the undercroft of her church. A Service of Consecration of her murals was held by Bishop Wood in 1990. She served on the Vestry, taught Sunday School and was a member of the St. Catherines' Guild and Friendship Circle. Mrs. Sporman was predeceased by: her husband, Walter, her daughter, Jenny Marie, two sisters, Patricia (Harry) Pytlak and Jean (Ray) Turner, and her parents. She is survived by her five children: Lenore (Bill) Sovereign of Essexville, Douglas Sporman of Essexville, Thomas Sporman of Pinconning Township, Julie Sauve-Baker (Brian Baker) of Clearwater, Florida and Elizabeth Hulslander (James Bates) of Bay City. Nana is survived by 16 grandchildren: Rachel, Phoebe, Benjamin, Douglas, Andrea, Brian, Walter, Mary Kay, Joshua, Stella, Heather, Meagan, Marian, Joseph, Jeffrey and Gregory and 20 great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother John B. (Virginia) Boughton of Arizona and a close friend, Gisela Schoenfeld of Bay City. Funeral services will take place Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church 105 S. Erie St.. Officiating will be The Rev. William W. Boli with inurnment following in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Friday May 7, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Albans Episcopal Church or The Humane Society.
