Marian M. Shorkey, a lifelong resident of Bay City, Michigan, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2026, at Auburn Heights Senior Care with her family by her side. Born on April 12, 1929, in Bay City, Marian dedicated much of her life to both her family and her work. Marian’s career was marked by a steadfast commitment to service and community. She spent fifteen years working at McDonald's in the Midland Mall, where she became a familiar and friendly face. Her expertise and leadership led her to become a manager at Burger King, where she served for many years, further honing her skills and reputation for dedication. Later in life, Marian found joy as a greeter at the Bay City Wal-Mart, where she greeted customers with warmth and kindness.
Beyond her professional achievements, Marian was a woman of varied interests who truly cherished her family. She enjoyed bowling and sewing, activities that brought her both relaxation and joy. Most importantly, she took great pride and pleasure in caring for her children, a role she fulfilled with boundless love and devotion.
Marian's family meant the world to her. She is survived by her children, Carol (James) Szilagyi, Cheryl Lambert, Dawn Commire, Victor (Sheila) Shorkey, Wendy Shorkey, Michele Toth, Denise (Lew) Garcia, Debra (Paul) Drager, and Brenda Shorkey. She also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Stella Shorkey, and a son-in-law, Gerald Meyers. Marian’s legacy flourishes through her twenty-seven grandchildren, fifty-four great-grandchildren, and thirty-two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward her spirit and love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Neva (Russell) Rice; husband, Harold Shorkey; children Patricia Meyers and Michael Shorkey, her son-in-law Gary Lambert, granddaughters Sabrina Lambert and Aira Shorkey, and great-grandchildren Nicholas Neumann and Greg Decatur. Their memories are cherished alongside her own.
A Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at Gephart Funeral Home. Private interment will take place at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to The American Cancer Society, The American Diabetes Association, or to Auburn Heights Senior Care.
