Mr. Martin 'Jake' Czerwinski, of Bay City, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Heartland Healthcare - Hampton, age 86. The son of the late Frank & Constance (Wachowski) Czerwinski, he was born July 2, 1927 in Bay City. Martin served with the U.S. Army and was Past Commander and longtime member of the Bay City P.L.A.V. He was married to the former Shirley Mapes, and she preceded him in death in 2008. Martin retired from Grey Iron Foundry. He was a lifelong family man, grandfather and great-grandfather.Martin is survived by five children, Suzanne (Robert) Messenger of Linden, Patrick Czerwinski and his special friend, Karen Wilding of Bay City, Kathleen (William) Kohn of Kawkawlin, Thomas Czerwinski of Bay City and Frank (Sara) Czerwinski of Bay City; a daughter-in-law, Sheila Czerwinski of Bay City; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Francis Bloch of Bay City; two sisters-in-law, Evylene Jenkens of Midland and Luella Czerwinski of Brighton; and several nieces & nephews. Martin was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Czerwinski in 2009; a sister, Mary Halasinski; and four brothers, Frank, George, Eugene and Paul Czerwinski.The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Pastor Brad Windlan and interment will follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The P.L.A.V. Memorial Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bay County Veterans Council.
