Melvin John Gerard, Jr. passed away Saturday morning June 5, 2010 at Brian's House, age 62. He was born August 10, 1947 in Bay City. Melvin has been involved with his family's business, Liquid Calcium Chloride Sales for the last 35 years. He was an avid sailor, racing sailboats for several years with the Bay City Yacht Club. Melvin was a board member of Sunset Shores Yacht Club and the Gaslight Condo Association. On December 20, 1975 Melvin married Constance L. Karrick, his childhood friend and neighbor, and she survives his passing along with his daughter, Lorien Gerard and two sons, Robert Atha, II and Brian Atha; his God-daughter, Clara Barringer; his mother, Marilyn Gerard; father, Melvin (Elaine) Gerard, Sr.; mother-in-law, Viola Karrick; his brothers, Tim Gerard, Rodney (Alice) Gerard, Tyler (Pam) Gerard and Patrick Gerard; sisters, Julie (Chris) Kruski-Zywlicki and Melanie Gerard; sisters-in-law, Denise (Tom) Sequin and Sharon (Ron) Coppinger; brother-in-law, David Karrick; a special cousin, Sr. Raymond Marie Gerard; and several nieces & nephews. Melvin was preceded in death by a son, Jeremiah T. Gerard in 1977; a brother, Randall Gerard; brother-in-law, Daniel Karrick; and his father-in-law, Russell Karrick. A Memorial Service will take place Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 12:00 O'Clock Noon at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc.. Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Richard E. Jozwiak. The Family will be present at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of services to received family and friends.
