Melvin S. VanDuser, of Bay City, Michigan passed away late Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Brian's House, age 91. The son of the late Irving and Mamie (Edmonds) VanDuser, he was born April 16, 1931 in Bay City. Mel previously worked as a carpenter and retired as the Business Agent of the Carpenters Union. He was a longtime member of the former Covenant Presbyterian Church and had more recently attended Kawkawlin Community Church. Mel was a Master Mason, past Master of Wenona Lodge 256, Bay City Consistory 32 Degree Mason, a Shriner, past director of the Flint Banjo Club, member of the Tall Shriners, past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star #219 and the Commandery #26. Mel also enjoyed wintering in Florida, visiting the casino, golf, hunting, fishing, playing cards, a good Manhattan, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
On November 4, 1950, Mel married Elaine M. Kipfmiller, and they enjoyed 61 years of marriage until her death in 2012. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Sheri L. VanDuser of Bay City, granddaughter, Megan K. VanDuser of Essexville, grandson, Derek L. VanDuser (Kyiana Miller) of Bay City, great grandchildren, Lyla and Dalton VanDuser, and Rileyn Webster and Fiancee, Bonnie Johnston of Nova Scotia. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his son, Kurt VanDuser.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Brian's House for their compassion and care that they gave to Mel.
The Mason service will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2022 at the Gephart Funeral Home followed by the Funeral and Committal service. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph Atchinson. Private interment will take place at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Brian's House or the Shriners Hospital will be available at the funeral home.
