Nancy Fonzi, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in Bay City, Michigan, at the age of 90, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 20, 1936, in Homestead, Pennsylvania, to the late David and Ellen (Guest) Smith.
Nancy was a member of Grace Church and was a woman of many talents and interests. Nancy enjoyed a lifetime filled with many passions, including singing, sewing, crocheting, and playing the organ. She was also a member of the Orchid Society and was President and chosen Woman of the year in Cedar Hill, Texas, by the Homemaker Extension Club.
Nancy enjoyed traveling to Pittsburgh to visit her family and was a devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She treasured the many memories made throughout her life and especially cherished the time spent with those she loved. Above all, Nancy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found her greatest joy in her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her children, Frank (Patsy) Fonzi, Christina McRorey, David (Diane) Fonzi, Glenn (Bobbi) Fonzi, and Leslie (Mike) Fonzi-Lynch; sisters, Jean Pokrant and Doris Cerda; special sister-in-law and lifelong friend, Erma Woolaghan; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Frank Fonzi; grandchildren, Frank James Fonzi, Tony Fonzi, and Brandyn Spychalski; sister, Ruth Handshue; brothers-in-law, Adolf Pokrant and Joe Cerda; and son-in-law, Lonnie “Bryce” McRorey.
Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Gephart Funeral Home. Pastor Eric Kieb will officiate, with interment to follow at Heavenly Rest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider contributions to The Humane Society of Bay County.
