Patricia passed away peacefully at her residence on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at the age 85. She was born to the late Clarence and Gretchen (Zehnder) Scherping on January 5, 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan. She attended Holy Cross Lutheran School for 8 years and then Arthur Hill High School. She went on and attended Delta College and became a surgical tech for several years. Patricia was baptized on April 24, 1958 and ordained as an Elder on May 10, 1998. She loved vacationing in Texas and went with her husband for 24 years. She also directed the choir for 17 years in Texas and sang at the Civic Center in the Messiah Choir in Texas as well. She was a master woodcarver, seamstress and square danced for 28 years. Everyone loved hearing her sing and she loved singing "How Great Thou Art". No matter what she did, she always made sure it had to be prefect. Most importantly, she was a great mother and grandmother.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Jerold Diehl, whom she married on June 27, 1954 and they spent over 68 years together. She is also survived by her four children, Randy (Maggie) Diehl, Suzanne (Patrick) Burk, Linda Goodman and Jerold Diehl Jr.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; three sisters, Gretchen (Chaz) Howard, Mary Bauer and Joann Howard and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandsons, Eric Burk and Todd Archangeli; great grandchild, Scarlet Archangeli; sister, Caroline Thayer and brothers, Kenny Scherping and Jim Scherping.
A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church (3301 E. Midland Rd., Bay City, MI 48706). The family will be present to receive visitors on Tuesday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community of Christ Church.
