Phyllis fell asleep in Christ on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Charter Senior Living with her daughter by her side at the age of 94. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 4, 1926 to the late Waldemar and Edna (Blue) Menzel. Phyllis was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the League of Women Voters in Oregon and Missouri, member of Puget Sound Choral Conductors Organization of Tacoma, Washington, member of the Music Teachers Association of Idaho and a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. She enjoyed sharing her love of her faith, directed many choirs, was an organist at many churches and taught piano. She loved reading, crocheting and spending time with her family.

Phyllis is survived by her four children, Nathan (Sue) Rush of Carlinville,  Illinois, Michael (Rojeanous) Rush of Asheville, North Carolina, Naomi (Thomas) Schimm of Bay City, Michigan and Martin (Ellen) Rush of Woodinville, Washington; ten grandchildren, Nick Rush, Robert Rush, Christina (Ben) Munn, Benjamin Schimm, Aaron (Alisha) Schimm, Sarah Schimm, Peter (Kelly) Schimm, Jonathan Rush, Olivia Rush and Andrew Rush; six great-grandchildren, Malachi Schimm, Isaac Schimm, Rachel Schimm, Megan Schimm, Lucas Munn and Samantha Munn. In addition to her parents Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Rush; brother, Havard Menzel; sisters, Elaine Menzel, Dorothea Schaffer and Alma Weber.

At the request of Phyllis cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 4, 2021. Officiating will be Pastor Dennis Matyas with inurnment to follow at St. Paul Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. The family respectfully request guests to wear masks and follow social distancing guidelines. Contributions may be made to the Lutheran Braille Workers and Lutherans for Life.
