Richard H. Behmlander Jr.

Richard passed away peacefully on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Sheffield Bay Assted Living at the age of 90. He was born on July 13, 1933 in Frankenlust Township to the late Richard and Lillian (Zeilinger) Behmlander. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Monitor. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He graduated from Handy High School and retired from Dow Chemical. Richard was an elected official in Bay County and Monitor Township. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends and family. He was always teaching and inspiring others and loved sharing stories from his life.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Joanne Behmlander (Lloyd McGahey); brother-in-law, Orwin Martin; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. He is also survived by his hunting buddy, Marv Wicker; neighbor and friend, Sam Lahma and friend, Jonathan Poole. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Behmlander and son, Richard Behmlander.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Sara from The Care Team Hospice and the team at Sheffield Bay Assisted Living. They would also like to thank his special nieces and nephews, there are too many to mention.
Funeral service for Richard will take place on Thursday, September 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Monitor with Military Honors to take place after the service. Officiating will be Pastor Seth Kaiser. Private interment will take place at Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will be present to receive visitors on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home and on Thursday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Trinity Lutheran Church of Monitor or the Trinity Lutheran School of Monitor.
