Richard "Dick" Vernon Van Nostrand

Richard "Dick" Vernon Van Nostrand, 75, of Bay City, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018. Dick was born May 7, 1943 in Bay City, Michigan to the late Vernon and Marie (Hirschman) Van Nostrand. He developed a love of photography at a young age from his father. While attending T.L. Handy High School he began working for Clyde Dirla. In the summer of '66 Dick took his first newspaper job with the LaPorte Herald, in Indiana. This would lead him back to Bay City in June of 1967 to begin his storied career with the Bay City Times, from which he retired in 2001. On July 15, 1967 he married his high school sweetheart, the former Janice Caney. They would spend the next 50 years building a family in a city he loved and cherished. Dick was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Jan, Son, David (Angela) Van Nostrand, Daughter, Amy (Ross) Klovski, grandchildren, Brittany Baybeck, T.J. Bomba, Gabriel and Lucas Van Nostrand, His brother Robert Van Nostrand, Brothers In Law, Dennis (Melody) Caney, Andrew (Judith) McNab, Sisters In Law, Peggy (Tom) Majchrzak, Judith (Tom) Judd and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will take place at Westminster Presbyterian church at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018. Officiating will be Rev. Matthew Schramm with private committal in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. VanNostrand will be taken to the church on Wednesday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
