Robert C. "Bob" Atha Sr. passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on July 7, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born on February 25, 1947, in Bay City, Michigan, Bob was the son of the late Frederick Atha and Madalean (Whaler) Atha. A graduate of St. John's High School, he proudly answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy in 1965. Following his military service, Bob began his career with General Motors. Eventually, he joined Laborers Local 1098. He retired from 1098 in 2004. Throughout his life, he was known for his remarkable work ethic and versatility, dedicating himself to concrete work, demolition, welding, and countless other trades. Bob was always willing to lend a helping hand and took pride in doing whatever work was needed.
Bob embraced life with enthusiasm and found joy in spending time outdoors. He loved traveling up north, boating, taking scenic drives, mowing the lawn, and enjoying nature. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and looked forward to watching the games with his special Lions buddy, Melissa. Bob also enjoyed dancing, playing Keno, and visiting the casino. Above all, his greatest happiness came from spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly.
Bob will be forever cherished by his beloved wife, Connie and dancing partner of 51 years; his children, Melissa Atha, Amanda (Nathan) Dodd, Jarrod (Amanda) Atha, Brian Atha, and Robert II (Marian) Atha; his cherished grandchildren, Cooper, Harper, Logan, Kira, and Rowan; his brother, Edwin “Barry” (Kathy) Atha; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Bob was welcomed into eternal rest by his sisters, Phoebe Bean and Georgia Bean; his stepfather, George DeYoung; his parents-in-law, Mary and John Rosenbrock; and his brothers-in-law, Dave McCallum and Duane (Butch) Bean, and special cousin Tom Whaler.
In accordance with Bob's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home. A private entombment will take place at Trinity Episcopal Columbarium at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to wishes of the family.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the Hospice nurses for their compassionate care and support.
Bob will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, his love of family, his kind and generous spirit, sense of humor, and the countless lives he touched throughout the years. His memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
