Robert W. Quantz, of Bay City, passed away Tuesday February 22, 2011 at his residence, age 73. He was born January 22, 1938 in Marquette, Michigan. Robert served in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Saginaw Asphalt Paving Co. in 1999. Robert was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was also a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed bowling and golfing and playing cards, especially on Wednesdays with his friends. On July 5, 1958 Robert married the former Patricia M. Steve and she survives him along with their two children, Robert Quantz, Jr. of Bay City and Kim (Don) Kumrits of Millington; six grandchildren, Brett M. (Juliet) Quantz, Troy A. Quantz, Justin R. Quantz, Lisa M. Quantz, Grant A. Kumrits and Ashley R. Kumrits; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Suzdak and Kallen Quantz; a sister, Jessie LeClaire of Escanaba; three step-sisters, Mary (Bob) Swanke, Sue (Kess) Booker and Lillian (Mike) Halley; two step-brothers, Henry (Karen) Heline and Johnnie (Patsy) Heline; three sisters-in-law, Loretta (Tom) Schindler, Lorraine (Bill) Trudell and Lucille Newcomb; and several nieces & nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his father, William Quantz, mother, Edna (DeRusha) Heliin and his step-father, Eino Heliin; two brothers, Louie and Jim Quantz; and his father and mother-in-law, Otto & Lucy Steve. A memorial service will take place at 12:00pm on Friday February 25, 2011 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Matthew Schramm followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00pm and at the church on Friday from 11:00am until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the wishes of the family.
