Mr. Kernstock passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 at his residence. Age 87 years. The son of the late Carl and Anna (Weiss) Kernstock was born April 20, 1923 in Monitor Township. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust, its men's club, an elder, an usher, served on the school board and served on various other committees at the church. Mr. Kernstock was retired as a farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, playing cards, playing baseball, and horseshoes and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. He is survived by his wife the former Violet E. Brandt whom he marred September 1, 1945. Also surviving are his children; Kenneth (Kay) Kernstock, Kathleen Kernstock, Cynthia (Timothy) Beckers and Kristine (Kris) Selle, his grandchildren; Linda Atkinson, Sandra Minaee, Robert Kenstock, Rachel Sanchez, Nathan Beckers, Rebecca Beckers and Jason Selle, six great grandchildren, three sisters; Irma McKenzie, Esther Teuscher and Lora Ruhlig and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by one daughter; Carrie Kernstock, two brothers; Harold and Emil Kernstock. The family would like to extend a special Thank you to the staff of Almost Heaven Home Health Care, especially Jenna, Bob, Joanna and Diane for the kind and compassionate care our loved one received during his illness. Funeral Services will take place Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust. Officiating will be Rev. Paul D. Theiss and Rev. Corey J. Grunklee with interment following in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Mr. Kernstock will be taken to the church on Wednesday to lie in state from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. Memorial cards for St. Paul Lutheran Memorial Fund will be available at the funeral home.
