Rose I. Headings

Rose Headings of Bay City, MI entered eternal rest on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the age of 92 years. She was silly, sassy, caring, loving, a mother, grandmother, best friend, and so much more.

She joined her husband, Sherman, five years and two days after he departed. We find peace that they are reunited as we know she missed him dearly.

Rose was born in East Tawas, MI on May 15, 1932, to William and Neva (Smith) Rice, and grew up in Bay City. She married the love of her life, Sherman A. Headings, on December 23rd, 1950. Rose and Sherm shared 68 love-filled years of marriage and raised eight children together.

A real-life Rosie the Riveter, Rose worked for many years making aerospace components at Stalker Corporation. After retiring, Rose took up a new venture as a tax preparer and helped people with their taxes for many years working at HR Block. She even earned her Master Tax Advisor certification at around age 80, an accomplishment she was very proud of. After leaving HR Block, Rose continued to serve those in need by volunteering to prepare taxes through the United Way. She was an involved community member, participating in various political organizations, volunteer organizations, and more. She fought for what she believed in, even marching on Washington with the UAW, and she always encouraged those she loved to stand up for the things they care about.

Rose loved going for drives to anywhere, going “up across the Straits” to see waterfalls, playing slots at the casinos, completing word puzzles, coloring, and spending time with her family and friends who she loved fiercely. In her later years, Rose was known affectionately as “GRAMS” to many of her grandkids and friends who became family. She had an enormous sense of humor and was always joking around. She would help anyone who needed it, including those she did not know personally. She was tenacious and determined, and her larger-than-life spirit will live on.

Left to cherish her memory are her eight children: Ted and Donna (Martyn) Headings, Wanda and John Everitt, Thomas and Tammy (Dearman) Headings, Timothy and Kathy (Morrill) Headings, Todd and Kathy (Starrett) Headings, Troy and Sue (Berger) Headings, Bethany and Herb Nordstrom and Vonnie and John Blossey; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Shorkey, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman, their parents, ten brothers and sisters, one daughter, Jackie Lynn Headings, and two grandsons, Anthony (Tony) Kraska and Senior Chief Gary Robert Headings.

Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Dawn Bennett with interment to follow in Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will be present to receive visitors at Gephart Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
