Sherry R. Baranek

Sherry passed away peacefully at her residence with her family by her side on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at the age of 72. She was born to the late Daniel and Irene (Vanderbuilt) Claybaugh on June 26, 1952 in Knoxville, Tennessee. She was a lifelong member of Corpus Christi Parish, formerly known as Holy Trinity Parish, where she was also baptized and had her first communion. Sherry and her husband, Gary, were very active at the Knights of Columbus. She was a member of the Bay County Community Center, and was known as the “Candy Lady” for bringing candy to people at Church and the Community Center. She made friends everywhere she went, her heart was full of generosity and you could always count on her homemade lasagna to cheer you up. She was a lover of dogs and wolves.

Sherry is survived by her husband of nearly 50 years, Gary Baranek; children, Christine (Bill) Girtman, Gary (Karla) Baranek Jr., Anthony Baranek, Antoinette Baranek, Tina Baranek and Paulette (Joel) Krauss; grandchildren, Adam (Sarah) Klemm, Carter Callahan, Charlie Callahan, Morgan Baranek, Jachob Johnson, Tyler Johnson, Josslyn LaVanway and Jackson Krauss; loving canine companion, Mosey; siblings, Billie Jo (Tom) Douponce and Daniel Ray Claybaugh; brother-in-law’s, Mark (Celeste) Baranek, Keith Baranek and Jay Baranek; sister-in-law, Bernadette (Gary) Henne and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Nicole Klemm; niece, Nicole (Douponce) Thomas; sisters, Vicky Smith and Betty Williams and sister-in-law, Pat Baranek.

The family would like to extend a very special thank you their close family friend, Paula Rice, for all her help and support throughout the last several years. They would also like to say thank you to the staff at Covenant VNA Hospice, as well as Holly Schultz and the CareBuilders at Home team.

In honoring the wishes of Sherry, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Corpus Christi Parish (Holy Trinity) at 10:00 a.m. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at Calvary Cemetery. The family will be present to receive visitors at the Church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bay County Humane Society.
