Terrence "Terry" Lee Young

Terrence “Terry” Lee Young, entered his journey to heaven peacefully at his Bay City home on October 28, 2026, with his family at his side, at the age of 78.

Terry was born on February 3, 1948, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Ralph and Harriett "Jean" (Fraser). He grew up alongside his siblings, Willard ‘Bill’ (Mary Jane), Donald (Karen), Jack (Claire), Janet Heavenrich (Max), Darlene ‘Taffy’ Rosenquist (Sam), and Shelby Buda.

In 1980, Terry married Alicia Guthrie, as life partners, they shared a love of sports, time with family, a multitude of friends and the antics of their cat Harvey.

Terry graduated from TL Handy High in 1966. Following graduation, he served his country with honor in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970, achieving the rank of Sergeant E4. He served in Vietnam and was stationed in California, Texas, and Massachusetts.

Terry was a dedicated employee, working for Radio Cab in Bay City for eight years before spending 33 years as a bus driver with Bay Metro Transit. Terry made a point to get to know his passengers, always joking and kidding with them. His colleagues described him as “kind, gentle, helpful, courteous and thoughtful”.

Terry loved his sports and was an enthusiastic participant. He played softball and blooper ball for three decades, and through his continued practice, he transformed from a novice golfer to one of the best players in his league. Terry managed the Happy Hookers Golf League at Maple Leaf Golf Course for over a decade. He enjoyed his time on the links, an occasional beer with his fellow golfers and challenging his brothers-in-law Tom and Max to a round. On the weekends Terry could be found in front of two or three tv’s watching his favorite sports and cheering on the Lions, Tigers and Wolverines.

Terry loved people and had a gift for connecting with everyone, if he walked into a room of strangers he walked away with a room of new friends. Terry was easy going and always smiling. His extensive circle of friends is a testament to his lighthearted, friendly demeaner, always calling people "kiddo".

Terry treasured the time he shared with his nieces and nephews. He loved being part of their lives and cherished the memories they made together.

Terry is survived by his life partner Alicia Guthrie; sisters Darlene (Taffy) Rosenquist (Sam) and Shelby Buda, brother Donald Young (Karen), in laws, Max Heavenrich, Clair Young , Jackie (Tom Belden), Sandy, Cheryl and Joseph (Wendy) Guthrie, along with several extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Bill and Jack, his sister Janet, and his in-laws, Sandford Guthrie and Cathrine Guthrie. He held a special place in his heart for his niece, Michelle Scott and nephew Troy Young who proceeded him in death.

In accordance with his wishes, Terry will be remembered in a celebration of life, date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, he kindly requested that donations be made to the Greater Bay Little League or Alicia Guthrie.
