Our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away Sunday, May 23, 2021 at her residence, with her family by her side. The daughter of the late Herbert and Clara (Rueger) Mammel was born April 11, 1928 in Bay City, Michigan. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Viola retired from Michigan Bell Telephone as supervisor from the drafting department after many years of service. She enjoyed quilting and sewing, she was Shannon's personal seamstress, and sewed all Adams buttons back on his shirts, fishing on the boat with her husband on fishing trips to Canada, going out with the Bay City Bells red hat group, playing weekly dominos with the ladies from her grief support group, look forward to Sunday dinners and playing dominos with her family, loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, she enjoyed traveling and her last trip was with her daughters, whale watching in Massachusetts and Niagara Falls.
Left behind to cherish her memories are her children, Connie Gerard, David Karrick, Denise (Thomas) Sequin Jr.; son-in-law, Ronald Coppinger; twelve grandchildren, Rob (Marian), Brian, Lorien (Del), Kristy (Nate), RyAnne, Michelle, Genevieve (Trevor), Tracy (Mark), Rebecca (Adam), Nicholas (April), Shannon and Mark (Danielle); 28 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Russell A. Karrick, her son, Daniel Karrick, her daughter, Sharon K. Coppinger, her grandson Jerimiah T. Gerard and her son-in-law, Melvin J. Gerard Jr. The family would like to extend a special Thank you to the staff of McLaren Hospice and staff especially, Michelle, Amanda, Katrina, Ben, Kim, Brittney, Robert, Tina and Ann for the kind and compassionate care our mother received.
Funeral Service will take place Friday, May 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Matthew Hall with interment following in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday to receive family and friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. We are still under the governor's order of 25 people in chapel at a time, you may experience a short wait while paying your respects. Viola will be taken to the church on Friday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
