Virgil passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Bay Shores Nursing Care Center, at the age of 93. The son of the late Valentine and Gertrude (Dittmer) Gwitt was born April 22, 1927 in Bay City, Michigan. He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Hyacinth Church. Virgil retired as a captain from the Bay City Fire Department. He was an avid golfer. Virgil proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W. II.
Family members left to mourn are his children, Michael (Paula) Gwitt and Jeanne Schultz; four grandchildren, Kristy (Dion) Tomkins, Stacey Gwitt, Allison Schultz and Jessica (Raul) Verdusco; two great grandchildren, Devin and Brennan Tomkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Kaiser) Gwitt.
A Private Funeral Mass and Rite of Committal will take place Monday, January 25, 2021 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Hyacinth Church. The celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Richard M. Filary with private interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider donations to Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish-St. Hyacinth Church.
